Bertie does his first CIC3*
On Sunday the 19th of October we left for Cameri – Italy. It was the first big trip with the new truck so we were very excited to see how everything worked! We picked up Lærke Larsen up from just outside Kolding in Denmark with her stallion Calypso Sun. All aboard and farewells said we aimed our self’s at the long journey ahead.
Once we cleared the “hostile” Swiss border in which we had to leave a deposit of CHF 1000. We arrived safely on at Cameri which is just west of Milan on the Monday evening.
The Event went well for both Lærke and Malene – Both had respectable dressage scores followed by fluent cross country rounds. Malene took her time and allowed Bertie to see what was happening. Lærke on the other hand showed us all how committed she was at the water obstacles!
Both Calypso an Bertie trotted up fine. In fact Jamie trotted Bertie up whilst Malene was still getting ready. Mind you they did go early in fairness to Malene. We were all thrilled with the show jumping round that Sunday afternoon. Malene had the last sadly and Lærke had two down, but there were smiles all round due to good qualifying rounds.
The trip back was a long one as we skipped the “red taped” Swiss and opted to travel back through Austria. We stabled that night in Hannover after an 18 hour drive! Thank god for the new lorry and thank M.A.N for air suspension!
